Ms. Nomvunywa Mdu is one of the beneficiaries who benefited from the samaf funded institution commonly known as Kwa – Machi FSC. The co-operative was formally registered in 2008 with the aim of benefiting the community around the Harding area in KwaZulu-Natal Province. The Financial Intermediary is managed by five people comprising two females, one youth, one male and a disabled person, the gender balance indicates that Kwa- Machi institution takes historically disadvantage individual criteria very seriously, hence they made it a point that their business represent all the equity.

Her business focuses on brick manufacturing and poultry. Before receiving financial assistance from Kwa- Machi FSC she used to struggle to meet the demands of her clients who required block bricks to build their houses and walls for their yards. Instead of giving up hope when they did not have financial backing, she decided to take a step further and approached Kwa- Machi FSC for the first loan amounting to R4000-00, and their loan was approved.

She utilised the loan to buy raw materials and cement for the block making business. And she is now facing a huge demand of servicing the local housing needs. The business is flourishing and generating revenues for Ms. Mdu. She indicated that the business is doing very well and that “With hope, anyone can be what they want to be and be ambassadors of their own being”. They appreciate the financial assistance provided by samaf funded institution, Kwa-Machi FSC in sustaining their growing business.
