1. Miss Kelebogile Modise

Miss Kelebogile Modise is a 36 years old women hailing from Disaneng village. She is in possession of standard 10 certificate followed by short courses in Bookkeeping and Business Management; she is currently running a general dealer shop which is commonly known to the community as Disana Timbe General Dealer. Her business started operating in 1993. The short courses have helped her to manage her business and take it to where it is today.

She started her savings with Disaneng and received her first loan of R2000 in 2006. She used her loan to buy more stock for her general dealer and managed to repay her first loan at the end of the month including interest. From thereon she has been climbing the ladder with the loans and she is now finishing repaying the loan of R7, 000. 00.

Miss Modise commented on her own words that the interest rates are very much affordable, with the loans that I have borrowed I have managed to change my business from nothing to where it is today, there was little stock in my general dealer but today everything has changed for the better. “Now I can be able to buy more stock to supply the whole community of Disaneng”.

I am very much grateful to samaf and Disaneng. Miss Modise was unable to get a loan from major banks because of their strict requirements, but through samaf mandate of contributing to government’s poverty reduction, she managed to get a loan from Disaneng FSC.

Pontso Elekwang is one of the beneficiaries of Disaneng Co-operatives, and lives in Disaneng community. He is at the age of 28 and comes from the familyy of eight. In this family there was no one employed. They depended on the pension money from their parents. The situation made himself, family and his community. He joined Disaneng where with R30 has managed to save R1,187.09 in the savings account. During that year he realized that with the little money that he had saved it is better if he starts venturing into bricks manufacturing.

He accessed his first loan from Disaneng on the 10 of May 2007, He decided to buy machinery and all the necessary equipment that he knew will enable him to succeed in the bricks business. He operates his business from home and says that it allows him to save money because he does not need to pay the rent for his business.

Seeing the growth of his business and the demand to supply bricks to his community and neighboring community, he managed to pay the loan in a short period of time. To date he is in the 8th loan with Disaneng Financial Services Co-operative, where he had borrowed R5000.00 and has not experienced repayment problem with the borrowed money because the interest rates are very much affordable.

During the Disaneng project visit, the Outreach Co-ordinator Mr Eric Makuya said "seeing the trucks and bakkies in Mr Pontso Elekwang's yard, it was evident tha thte business is doing well. He is determined to succeed and be an example to the youth of South Africa who is helping his community and neibouring community to build hourses with affordable bricks than going to retailers that are more expensive.

Mr Elekwang commented that interest rate from Disaneng Micro finance Institution are very much affordable. With the help that I am getting from them I will be able to service different areas in South Africa. I want to thank samaf and officials from the North West Office who always make sure that my business grows from strength to strength. Their capacity building product has helped me to sustain my business and it is because of samaf that I am where I am today. samaf must carry on with the work that they have started to assist emerging previously disadvantaged SMME’s
